Creative director, Joanna Przetakiewicz was born and raised in communist Poland. Surrounded by grey, she, like her mother, grandmother and aunt found escapism in fashion. Since a young age, she attentively watched them as they tinted and dyed fabrics, and then tagged along on their Sunday excursions to the family tailor who lived in a wooden house near Warsaw. Her grandmother, a history teacher and skilled embroiderer worked
together with the tailor to create entire wardrobes for them all.
Her interest in design continued to develop, and aged 14 she staged her first runway show. This entrepreneurial spirit extended to business
nous. Among other projects, Joanna opened a series of dental clinics and next, a chain of restaurants before returning to her first love of fashion four years ago with the launch of La Mania.
Our definition of luxury is the beauty that comes from an emotional bond between a woman and fashion. Standouts from the line include the all-flattering long sleeve crepe dress that has the power to go from the boardroom to the bar in an instant, the sort of sleek jumpsuit that’s
more than just a reliable go-to – it’s an allout wardrobe necessity when it comes to finding an evening solution that works for an impromptu cocktail with girlfriends, and even, a black tie gala; and consider the dramatic cape back shift, one that solves the ever pressing, ‘but what do I wear over my shoulders?’ These are clever, easy towear silhouettes that do the thinking for you, whatever the occasion.
The hallmark of La Mania is the use of the highest quality fabrics and attention to details. La Mania carefully chooses its fabrics and manufacturers. These include highly regarded in the textile world producents from Italy, France and Łódź.
Art is an inspiration in every single aspect of the brand’s activity. It allows us to look past constraints, to explore and to create with continuous excitement and engagement. It is reflected in our products - architectural shapes creating iconic dresses, capsule colours and classic design combined with the latest trends.
The aim of La Mania is to create an exclusive union between two creative worlds: fashion and art. The brand hosted its launch event at the national art gallery “Zachęta” in Warsaw. The first collection was presented in a form of an art exhibition with framed pieces hanging on the walls of a gallery or presented on mannequins imitating sculptures. The guests were surprised by a dancer representing a cocoon - at the climax of the show white paper butterflies appeared symbolizing THE BIRTH. The following collection, Spring/Summer 2011 was accompanied by presentation of a short fashion movie created exclusively for La Mania. The film titled after the collection “Bon Appetit” was directed by Xawery Żuławski, the son of Andrzej Żuławski, a world famous film director. The music was written by Jan A. P. Kaczmarek, a Polish composer with a tremendous international reputation.
La Mania was created by Joanna Przetakiewicz – a Polish businesswoman admired the world over for her intelligence and unique style. Enamoured with fashion from an early age, the inspiration for the brand was born of a need for a wardrobe to fit her jet-setting lifestyle, and influenced by her love of art.
A solicitor and entrepreneur by profession, it was upon packing for another trip that it dawned on Joanna that all the pieces she had chosen to take away were either self-made, or altered according to her own specific requirements and inspiration. So, with the firm conviction that she was best placed to design for her lifestyle, she set to work on La Mania’s first collection. With the support of her friends, and the invaluable assistance from Karl Lagerfeld, she turned her first love – fashion – into a business and so, at the end of 2010, La Mania was born.
In the last two years, La Mania has quickly become one of the brightest new names in international luxury fashion. Currently the leading Fashion House in Poland and with interest mounting in the rest of the world, the stage is set for the next exciting chapter in La Mania’s international expansion.
Joanna Przetakiewicz was the jury member of the first and second edition of Project Runway in Poland.
Along with topmodel Anja Rubik and renowned photographer Marcin Tyszka she supported young designers in their road to success.
Project Runway is a competitive reality television series focusing on fashion design. In Poland it is shown on the TVN.
The show follows a group of fashion designers as they compete against each other to avoid being “the next fashion victim” and win the competition. The programme is based upon the US reality show Project Runway.
La Mania’s woman is fashion – conscious, who desires the highest quality. She values comfort and elegance and seeks the perfect solution. She sets the trends rather than follows them. She is independent, ambitious and active.
The interiors of La Mania boutiques feature an impressive combination of soft and opulent, grey, black and red velours with discretely elegant, brown furniture and large mirrors that reflect the rays of light. The exclusive atmosphere is further emphasized by the presence of modern art. Pieces by Ingo Maurer and Anish Kapoor are individually selected to complement the interior of each boutique.
